    Wellmark is currently recruiting for a Paralegal to join our Legal Department.  In this role, you will assist Wellmark’s legal counsel in providing effective and proficient legal support to all Wellmark business activities, including litigation support, regulatory compliance, document preparation and review, and legal research.  The successful candidate will demonstrate high ethical and professional standards, a self-starting attitude, and an engaging and friendly personality.

    Minimum Qualifications Required (all must be met to be considered)

    • Associate degree with a strong academic record in paralegal studies, insurance, health, finance, business or related degree or equivalent work experience
    • Minimum 4 years paralegal, legal assistant, insurance or subrogation recovery related experience 
    • Strong and concise communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships within and across teams
    • Demonstrated proficiency in using various Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access
    • Demonstrated proficiency in using online legal research tools, including Westlaw and Iowa courts online
    • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail

    Hiring Specifications Preferred

    • Bachelor’s Degree in related field 
    • Prior experience with litigation support or management, electronic discovery, trademarks, corporate law, regulatory compliance, or contract review 
    • Prior experience as a paralegal in corporate Law Department
    • Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) designation or Paralegal Certification

    Job Accountabilities

    a. Review, summarize, and maintain complete and current litigation and project files by monitoring incoming/outgoing information, organizing materials logically and chronologically, and timely reporting key information to counsel.

    b. Compose and complete accurately, timely, and in proper form business documents, such as correspondence, memoranda, contracts, forms, and regulatory reports.

    c. Research and prepare written and verbal summaries of federal and state laws, regulations, and court decisions.

    d. Compile facts and documents under the direction of counsel by gathering information, interviewing personnel, researching issues, and compiling and summarizing results.

    e. Identify and implement ongoing process improvements within the Legal Department or working with other Departments on process improvement initiatives.

    f. Participate as an effective and collaborative team member in the Legal Department by assisting other members of the team and by cross training and self-development.

    g. Consult with corporate counsel with regard to all matters, in accordance with professional ethics for lawyers and paralegals.

    h. For all job accountabilities, meet performance standards and comply with other job requirements as established and communicated by incumbent’s leadership.
