  • Job Summary

    As a Payroll Specialist at Wellmark, you'll work as part of a team to administer day-to-day payroll processes, using technology and strong working relationships to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll and pay-related transactions.  You'll leverage your strong attention to detail and ability to resolve problems on a regular basis to review and process time-card information and other critical components such as the transmission/auditing of pay run results to ensure accuracy in the processing of bi-weekly payroll and other pay related transactions.

     

    Our ideal candidate will possess experience in payroll administration including working with payroll and timekeeping systems such as Workday or ADP. 

     

    This position is Part Time with a standard schedule of 30 hours per week with occasional peak times (quarter end, year end, ect.) where more hours will be required. 

    Minimum Qualifications Required (all must be met to be considered)

    Associate's Degree in Business, finance or accounting related field (or direct and applicable work experience) and 1+ years of related experience:

    • Demonstrated experience in payroll administration and/or general accounting practices.
    • Experience working with highly sensitive/confidential information; exercising sound judgment.
    • Strong organizational skills and detail orientation, including demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure to meet timeliness and accuracy guidelines.
    • Demonstrated experience working both independently and cooperatively on teams, maintaining positive relations with internal and external contacts.
    • Demonstrated analytical skills – ability to recognize inconsistencies, research and come to conclusion.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Word.

    Hiring Specifications Preferred

    • Experience working with payroll and timekeeping applications/systems (e.g. Workday, ADP), and using applicable reporting tools.
    • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certificate (FPC)

    Job Accountabilities

    a. Perform daily/bi-weekly payroll processing duties to generate the bi-weekly payroll for Wellmark employees, in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy, by using automated systems. Duties include reviewing/processing time-card information and the transmission/auditing of pay run results, manual check processing, check distribution, and tracking/ensuring collection of deductions in arrears.

    b. Serve as the primary contact for administering the automated time keeping system, e.g. holiday calendar, data import/export extracts, front loaded PTO. Responsible for the day-to-day processing, including historical corrections, military pay and donated PTO. Serves as subject matter expert when maintenance and necessary upgrades to the timekeeping system is required to improve efficiency and effectiveness of system.

    c. Process and/or validate a number of payroll forms, including direct deposit forms, tax forms, PTO cash-out requests and wage assignments.

    d. Produce timely and accurate payroll reports, including payroll checks activity reports and related information to accounting, bi-weekly payroll reports to other departments, and additional reports and data as required by the business.

    e. Ensure proper retention of all payroll related documents processed as part of job accountabilities.

    f. Provide prompt and courteous customer service by researching and resolving payroll related employee inquiries and responding to payroll related verifications of employment. Provide expertise to HR Solutions and other HR staff members to support the HR Service Delivery Model.

    g. Participate in process improvement activities to ensure efficient and effective payroll processes identify and implement process improvement steps, processes, or activities with support from team and leadership.
