Job Summary

About the Career: In this role, you are responsible for coordinating the development of advance arrangements and procedures to ensure the organization can respond to a disaster so that the critical business technology systems and processes can be resumed within a defined time frame, which includes coordinating the design, development, maintenance, and exercising/testing of the overall disaster recovery (DR) plans for each critical technology system of the organization. You are responsible for leading disaster recovery effort exercises.

Minimum Qualifications Required (all must be met to be considered)


  • Bachelor’s Degree or direct and applicable work experience
  • 7+ years of the following experience:
    • Experience in computer applications development and/or system analyst position  
    • Experience in systems development life cycles
    • Experience in various Information Technology platforms (Client Server, Data Warehouse, Internet/Intranet,
    • Electronic Commerce, etc) and knowledge how each fits within and/or complements the enterprise architecture
    • Previous experience working with enterprise disaster recovery planning techniques and technologies; including a strong understanding of business continuity software
    • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the methods used in performing risk analyses and business impact analyses
    • Working knowledge of data processing in order to assist in the preparation of recovery procedures in this area
    • Thorough knowledge of data and voice telecommunications in order to assist in the preparation of recovery procedures in this area
  • Advanced project management skills, including the ability to plan, organize, and direct the testing of emergency response, recovery support, and business resumption procedures
  • Strong human relations skills to interface with managers and staff at all levels within the organization and to deal with vendors of disaster recovery services
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills

Job Accountabilities

a. Perform risk analysis for corporate technology systems to identify points of vulnerability and recommends disaster avoidance and reduction strategies. Provide guidance to and coordinate the efforts of staff members in the development of system recovery procedures for key areas of the organization. Analyze environmental and equipment configurations for critical corporate resources recommend disaster avoidance measures and improved backup capabilities.

b. Assist with technical aspects of business impact analyses and assist company units to determine critical business systems, identify acceptable recovery time periods, and establish resources required for the successful resumption of critical technology systems in the event of a disaster. Ensure records required for recovery are identified and maintained.

c. Establish disaster recovery testing methodologies plan and coordinate the testing of recovery support and business resumption procedures in different functional areas. Ensure that recovery procedures are effective for the restoration of key corporate systems.

d. Create and maintain Technology Business Continuity Plan using industry standard DR business continuity software.

e. Lead DR tests as defined by corporate DR test schedule. Work with staff to create detailed plans for each DR test. Assist with validation of test scripts jointly with application owners. Follows through on testing issues from multiple platforms. Document test results and responsible for post testing issues surfaced. Maintain log of occurrences during DR test. Help identify time spent and success/failures.

f. Collaborate and facilitate vendor risk reviews in partnership with Information Security, Audit, Finance, Privacy Office, Infrastructure, and any other internal business area to review vendors disaster recovery and business continuity plans, to develop a risk rating for Tier 1 vendors.

g. Conduct disaster recovery training for key staff members in key functional areas. Provide instructional and informational materials on how staff is expected to respond during an emergency. Assist divisions in the assignment and training of staff. Develop and maintain standards and procedures for disaster recovery documentation. Maintain a library of recovery support and business resumption procedures.

h. Work with vendors of disaster recovery services and facilities research and recommend outside services for use during a disaster situation.

i. Work with management to ensure that disaster recovery issues are addressed as new equipment, facilities, services, and systems are installed.

j. Maintain contact with outside contingency planning professional organizations and local/regional emergency response groups.

k. Act as Technology liaison with Enterprise Business Continuity EBC group.
