Job Summary

About the Career: The Team Leader of Cloud Metering, Monitoring & Automation is responsible for management and optimization of virtual infrastructure for a variety of environments.  In this role, you will provide leadership, mentoring and direction to a team of engineers, while being accountable for optimization of cloud environments to meet technical and business requirements.  You will collaborate and partner with leadership across Wellmark Technology to create repeatable, automated and real time infrastructure solutions for all Wellmark services (purchased or in-house designed), and provide Level 3 support (Design and Engineering) Services.

Minimum Qualifications Required (all must be met to be considered)

  • Bachelor’s degree or direct and applicable work experience
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience and knowledge in build and release engineering, DevOps scripting, and/or automation
    • Of which, a minimum 4 years’ experience designing and delivering technical solutions to include any combination of:
      • Microsoft Server Technologies (Windows Server, IIS, Exchange, PowerShell scripting)
      • AWS – EC2, RDS, Route53, CloudFormation, CloudFront Automation and AWS API
      • Deployment and operation of ELK Stack (ElasticSearch, LogStash, Kibana), Shield
      • Configuration management via Puppet (and/or Ansible)
      • Containers (including Kubernetes, Docker Swarm)
      • Experience with Linux (CentOS/RHEL/Debian) including scripting (Bash, Python)
      • Monitoring and resource tracking frameworks, and associated Application Performance Management (APM) toolkits
      • Hands-on experience in maintaining code repositories (Git/Stash, TFS, SVN, Perforce etc), 
      • Hands-on experience working with build scripts and tools such as Ant and Maven, shell/batch scripts
      • Hands on experience working with artifact repository managers such as jFrog Artifactory or Nexus
  • Leadership typically gained through a combination of project and information leadership that demonstrates competencies.
  • Strong collaboration skills with ability to build relationships across technology divisions.
  • Strong decision making skills with the ability to influence and drive change.
  • Strong understanding of Well mark’s Technology strategy and creating tactical plans for teams.

Job Accountabilities

a. Provide leadership to develop, coach and mentor staff to effectively perform their jobs. Provide a strong understanding of service delivery concepts, procurement, negotiations, settlements, strategic and tactical planning, and quality assurance processes. Participate with leadership in the budget preparation, purchasing decisions, expense control, and staff management processes.

b. Be a self-driven, reflective Team Leader who hires and enables the development of skilled team members to handle the variety of tasks assigned, through coaching, mentoring, and nurturing new ideas. Provide a strong understanding of service delivery concepts, cloud and cloud services design, strategic and tactical planning, and overall IT Service Management Delivery for Release and Change of Cloud infrastructures.

c. Oversee the design and improvements of Wellmarks build and release infrastructure including the development of secure based cloud infrastructures, the setup and maintenance of source code repositories, build tools and scripts. Manage the repository management tools and confirmation management tools through the deployment of code base integrity, checkin validation rules and branching and merging processes.

d. Responsible for overall service and technology recovery and business continuity in the event of a disaster. Ensure audit processes are followed and reports delivered to Wellmark leaders and archive as required.

e. Conduct research activities and testing on the applicability of new integrated system designs, technologies, architectures, and products to recommend innovative solutions enhancing the current system and aligning it with Wellmark's enterprise architectural direction, long-term strategic plans, and migration roadmaps.

f. Ensure compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, licensing, governance, and contractual requirements by establishing and monitoring effective processes and procedures.

g. Provide optimal systems performance levels through proactive systems design and engineering practices identifying and resolving cross-capability architectural dependencies, simplification opportunities, and gaps while minimizing costs.

h. Direct the implementation of cloud enhancements ensuring optimal system performance and reliability, while addressing the requirements of heterogeneous integration, compatibility, security, and business continuity to guarantee scalable solutions.

i. Design or select applications required for enterprise system level interactions.

j. Forecast management of technology replacement to better articulate costs for expense control during the multiyear rotation period. Participate with leadership in the budget preparation, purchasing decisions, expense control, and staff management processes.

k. Make timely recommendations to Wellmark leaders concerning the need for additional resources or personnel so that work schedules and assignments are completed accurately and timely in a multishift environment. Lead the development and scheduling of resources and personnel usage including availability monitoring.
