About the team: You will be working on the Digital Operations/ “Run” team, focused on ensuring newly built and existing applications, operate in production within defined SLA’s.  This team supports applications for Agents, Brokers, Providers, and Small/Large Groups.  Our team has multiple .Net apps, some Java apps, and we’re working through a multi-year migration of our systems to migrate our code base to Angular & Node and move it to Amazon Web Services (AWS).


About the career: In this role you will lead and manage a team responsible for application operations (Run), which includes incident, change, knowledge, release and performance management of the software systems used in our digital landscape.  The applications this team supports includes Employer, Provider and Producer Portals, myWellmark and the Small Group platform, that will be introduced in 2018.  You will collaborate with your Application Development “Build” peers to ensure a clean transition of projects as they are released to production, as well as your cloud services partners to ensure infrastructure is right sized to support the applications based on defined business needs / SLA’s. In addition, you will collaborate with stakeholders and Wellmark Technology leaders to strengthen our culture, improve the foundation and innovate for the future.

Minimum Qualifications Required (all must be met to be considered)

  • Bachelor's Degree or direct and applicable work experience
  • A minimum of 4+ years’ experience:
    • Managing/leading the execution of production support activities
    • Experience with highly integrated, complex systems
    • Effectively leading teams through highly visible/major incidences
  • Informal leadership experience typically gained through project management or by coaching/mentoring others by providing guidance and feedback to help an employee to strengthen their knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be highly adaptable to unexpected changes or situations that occur.  Adjusts effectively to work within work structures, business processes, work requirements and culture.
  • Proven ability to measure and evaluate work processes, services and products to achieve organizational goals. Ability to redesign processes as needed using best methods and technology automation to meet or exceed business needs.
  • Demonstrated problem solving/troubleshooting skills; generating a range of solutions and courses of action with benefits, costs, and risks associated with each.

Job Accountabilities

a. Provide leadership and day-to-day management of financial and human resources, primarily focusing on employee coaching, development, performance improvement, coordination and budgeting for staff and departments specific functions/services. Support business objectives and produce results that are effective, accurate, and timely and on target to meet HR team and stakeholder needs.

b. Manage daily administration, planning and execution of production support activities. Support existing systems and applications, by ensuring design, selection, deployment and maintenance of business application systems are successfully integrated and operated within Wellmark's business environment. Support business needs through strong relationships and ensuring solutions support overall strategic priorities.

c. Responsible for managing enterprise applications planning and deployment. Executes on technology vision, enables innovation and understands the IT trends that can create business value, in collaboration with Wellmark Technology leadership.

d. Contribute to the management, monitoring, and improvement of both existing and new IT processes like change management, release management and incident management. Engage and collaborate with application delivery and infrastructure operations teams to ensure the successful implementation and execution of delivered solutions.

e. Establish policies, procedures, tools and standards, in conjunction with Application Development, Wellmark Technology leaders and other applicable stakeholders. Ensure the deployment and maintenance of business application solutions, are successfully integrated within Wellmark's business environment.

f. Develop and mentor application staff on business practices and technical capabilities. Lead departmental compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements, as well as with corporate policies.

g. Engage and collaborate with application delivery and infrastructure operations teams to ensure the successful implementation and execution of delivered solutions.

h. Develop and maintain long-term, collaborative relationships with key software and vendor solution providers. Evaluate and manage the business relationship including but not limited to ensuring adherence to Wellmark guidelines and standards, oversight of vendor operational metrics, and the management of vendor performance.
