What’s Third Party Security? Outsourcing business processes to a third party has quickly become the norm in today’s world. But with outsourcing key processes comes significant risk. Many of the high-profile data breaches that have recently occurred are due to the negligence of top organization’s third parties, which is why third party security reviews are so critical. The Third Party Security team (a new team to Wellmark) provides assurance around security controls in place at Wellmark third party locations that store, process, and/or access Wellmark data. This is accomplished through the completion and review of third party security questionnaires, network and application penetration tests, and other various security reports and policies.

What projects might I support? Although subject to change, examples of projects you will be contributing to include:

  • Participating in the review of third party security questionnaires and penetration tests.
  • Collaborating with and communicating to business owners and Vendor Management the outcome of third party security scorecards.
  • Assisting with the development of strategic policy and procedure documents.
  • Tracking and following up on third party security issues.
  • Training on national security best practices.
  • Potential to travel to a third party location for a site visit.
