What’s Business Analytics? The Business Analytics team at Wellmark provides reporting and data analysis to various stakeholders throughout the company. We work with many data sources including those related to health/pharmacy claims, member enrollment, health and care management, provider, product/benefit, sales/marketing, customer service, etc. In general, our work consists of collaborating with business stakeholders to define a business problem and then consuming data and doing analyses to enable data-driven decision making.


What projects might I support?  Although subject to change, examples of projects are included below:

  • Quantifying the impact and root cause of customer inquiries through speech and text analytics
  • Identifying optimal staffing levels to meet our customer’s needs  
  • Analysis of claims timeliness drivers

This internship will start in May of 2018.

Minimum Qualifications Required (all must be met to be considered)

To be considered, candidates must be current junior, senior or graduate students studying a Quantitative major for example; Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Science and have: 

  • Training and practice using statistical programming tools (e.g., SAS, SPSS, R, SQL, etc.) for advanced analysis and complex data integration
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to influence and build relationships of trust     
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to make recommendations by translating data analysis insights into decisions and actions
  • Strong problem solving skills, with the ability to develop proactive solutions
