Job Summary

Our Business Vendor Relationship Manager will provide strategic oversight of our ancillary vendors. This includes building and maintaining external third-party relationships, managing and coordinating daily interactions and administration of relationships with ancillary vendors, and collaborating with procurement in the oversight and development of vendor contracts and service level agreements. This individual will work with the appropriate subject matter experts to ensure our ancillary vendors are performing in all aspects (such as great client service, operational excellence, and a competitive product/price) as expected and meeting client needs.

Minimum Qualifications Required (all must be met to be considered)

  • Associate’s Degree or direct and applicable work experience.
  • 4+ years of experience:
    • Vendor management, vendor relations, or related role. Ability to serve as key contact and liaison for internal and external stakeholders, understand contracts and processes, etc.
    • Prior insurance, financial services, or similar corporate experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate information, business implications, and recommendations to varying audiences. Polished and professional in approach with ability to partner with internal stakeholders to resolve customer issues related to ancillary vendors.
  • Ability to influence without authority through strong consultation and relationship management skills. Ability to uncover needs, influence others, resolve conflict, and provide recommendations.
  • Proactive self-starter with effective organization and time management skills. Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills. Ability to produce customer-focused solutions that balance an understanding of the business, vendor abilities, contracts requirements, etc.
  • Ability to manage invoices and resolve discrepancies. Attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook) and web-based applications.

Hiring Specifications Preferred

  • Associate's Degree.
  • Direct vendor management experience, including knowledge of contract/supplier management, procurement processes (e.g. RFI/RFP), and legal implications related to contracts.
  • Health insurance or related industry experience, including knowledge of products and benefits.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • Contracts Management Certificate (NCMA).

Job Accountabilities

a. Provide strategic oversight of Wellmark's ancillary vendors including building and maintaining the external third-party relationships. Manage the daily interactions and the relationship between Wellmark and its ancillary vendors. Establish and build excellent trust-based working relationships with procurement, business partners and vendors. Work to effectively grow and maintain business relationships with the vendor and provide ongoing management and oversight of those relationships.

b. Provide oversight and administration for quarterly, semi-annual, and annual business reviews as appropriate involving the correct internal and external stakeholders.

c. Serve as the primary contact for vendors involved in the management of Wellmark ancillary products. Oversee resolution of production issues by knowing the appropriate resources to collaborate with to ensure issues are communicated effectively and resolved with minimal customer disturbance. Work with key subject matter experts to identify root causes of problems and ensure they are corrected appropriately.

d. In conjunction with procurement, ensure that contracts are mutually agreeable and that the terms of the contract are in the best interest of our customers. Work closely with Strategic Sourcing, Contract Administration and other business units to ensure SLAs, deliverables, compliance requirements and internal/external expectations are met.

e. Work with the product team to oversee and prioritize planning and implementation of the new products associated with our ancillary vendors in support of new strategic goals and within existing budget.

f. Monitor vendors’ performance to ensure compliance with SLAs and facilitate corrective action regarding performance issues to resolution with the vendor. In conjunction with procurement, provide business leadership in RFPs and participate in vendor contract negotiations as needed and identify potential improvement opportunities in current vendors’ contracts.

g. Ensure vendors are properly educated on Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and Wellmark expectations and monitor vendor compliance, as appropriate. Ensure vendor products comply with ACA regulations as defined by the product team.

h. Oversee the daily administration of vendors, while establishing and maintaining vendor metrics to evaluate, monitor and manage vendor performance based on defined set of criteria. Responsible for the execution of vendor management program elements such as quarterly business reviews, annual vendor reviews, including reporting as required. Consult with internal resources to identify and resolve service level issues, diagnose poor vendor performance and oversee all remediation activities. Conduct onsite vendor evaluations pre/post implementation as necessary to resolve ongoing service level issues.

i. Review/reconcile invoices for completeness and accuracy. Will oversee and report monthly/quarterly spend to forecast and ensure vendor spend is within budget. Report status to leadership, as requested.

j. Be the primary point of contact for Wellmark with the vendor to support the needs of business area and facilitate conversations as needed. Investigate new opportunities and leverage vendor technology solutions wherever possible to improve the overall efficiency of administering ancillary product benefits to Wellmark members.

k. Other duties as assigned.
