About the team:  This position is located within one of our “Run” teams of our “Build, Run” operating model for Application Development at Wellmark.  This team of 11 works within a very fast paced environment to ensure environments are stable and running, provides root cause analysis and pro-actively solution to prevent future issues.

About the Career:  In this role, you will lead a team of matrixed resources across Wellmark Technology to effectively plan for and manage the application multiyear maintenance and support plans for highly integrated/complex applications. You will provide advanced subject matter expertise and an integrated understanding of business and technology alignment for the applications. In addition, you will provide leadership for troubleshooting and resolution of high impact incidents and problems collaborating with application delivery, infrastructure and all impacted business stakeholders. You will also lead the effort to maintain documentation and evaluate software changes in functionality and technology in order to ensure business objectives are met while risk to the current environments and Wellmark is managed.

Minimum Qualifications Required (all must be met to be considered)

  • Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and applicable work experience
  • 7+ years of experience which should include any combination of the following:
    • 4+ years network administration, database administration/management
    • Testing and/or troubleshooting in a fast paced environment
    • Acting as a subject matter technology resource on one or more applications
    • Code review - C#, .net, Java
    • Writing SQL queries and analyzing data
    • Engaging 3rd party vendors in troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changes quickly
  • Proven analytical abilities when working across multiple data sources
  • Ability to effectively communicate, verbal and written
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate make decisions and to influence others
  • Proven to be highly organized, with an ability to multitask, all the while maintaining high attention to detail
  • Self-starter not only to troubleshoot, but to provide proactive solutions
  • Ability to be part of a rotating on-call schedule

Job Accountabilities

a. Lead and influence a team of matrixed resources across Wellmark Technology to effectively plan for and manage the application multiyear maintenance and support plans for highly integrated/complex applications. Will provide subject matter expertise and an integrated understanding of business and technology alignment for the applications.

b. Responsible for providing leadership regarding troubleshooting and resolution of high impact incidents and problems. Will collaborate with application delivery, infrastructure and all impacted business stakeholders.

c. Leads the effort to maintain documentation and evaluate software changes in functionality and technology in order to ensure business objectives are met while risk to the current environments and Wellmark is managed.

d. Provide technical guidance and coordinate of system implementations and upgrades. Proactively monitor systems availability performance and capacity and advise leadership of system health.

e. Utilize strong customer service skills in response to new release and customer inquiries and become well-versed with common problem inquiries and be able to provide immediate solutions.

f. Collaborate with infrastructure and information security to ensure that regulatory and security requirements are maintained.

g. Assist in the research, evaluation, and selection of technology solutions that are compliant with Wellmark's adopted standards allowing integration into the existing environments with minimal impact to users.

h. In collaboration with enterprise availability, assist with high availability/high reliability application environments across a complex technical enterprise by providing in-depth cross functional technical and business expertise to implement, support, and improve corporate wide and business line specific systems.

i. Lead the evaluation of changes from Application Delivery to determine the risk to current technical environment to determine and recommend the most effective implementation strategy.

j. In support of production/application systems, provide application expertise to support project investments. Provide system availability, performance expectations and capacity requirements.

k. Lead the development of a multiyear application plans accounting for investments, interdependencies with infrastructure, vendor product roadmaps, and business applications strategies.

l. Attain and leverage technical expertise of current and emerging technologies, as well as exhibiting a practical project management skillset, to promote strong internal and external customer relationships.

m. Develop business expertise and knowledge of the application in order to proactively provide support and advanced planning for maintenance of the application.

n. Support disaster recovery and business continuity efforts and plans in the event of a disaster. Ensure audit processes are followed and reports provided to leadership as necessary. Communicate crisis data or disaster recovery actions, and escalations to appropriate internal and external stakeholders. Ensure minimal impacts to users during implementation and post maintenance activities.

o. As needed, may engage in development activities to support enhancement and maintenance of application systems or project investments.
